Materials

  • Gold bead Gold bead (1)
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (small bunch)
  • Fine wire rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (2-3 strands)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a pheasant tail tail about half a shank long and bind a copper wire at its base.
  3. Wrap the pheasant tail forward to the 65% mark for a slim body, then counter-rib with the copper wire in 5-6 open turns.
  4. Leave the pheasant tips forward for the wing case, then wrap a peacock thorax up to the bead.
  5. Fold the pheasant tips back over the thorax as a wing case, tie down behind the bead, and split leftover tips as legs.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead, snip, and add a drop of head cement.
