Pheasant Tail Flashback Bead

Materials

  • Brass or tungsten bead Gold bead (1)
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (small bunch)
  • Fine wire rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (2-3 strands)
  • Pearl tinsel/Flashabou (wing case) Pearl flashabou (few strands)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a pheasant tail tail one half shank long, then bind a copper wire and a length of pearl tinsel at the base.
  3. Wrap pheasant tail forward to the 65% mark for the body and counter-rib with the copper wire in 5-6 open turns.
  4. Wrap a peacock-herl thorax up to the bead.
  5. Pull the pearl tinsel forward over the thorax as a flashy wing case, tie it down behind the bead, and trim.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead, snip, and add head cement.
