Pheasant Tail Emerger-Beadhead

Materials

  • Brass or tungsten bead Gold bead (1)
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (small bunch)
  • Fine wire rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (2 strands)
  • CDC or antron (wing bud) Gray/white cdc or antron (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye of a curved hook and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a short pheasant tail tail, one half shank, at the bend and bind a copper wire.
  3. Wrap pheasant tail forward around the curve to the 65% mark for the body and counter-rib with the wire in 5-6 turns.
  4. Wrap a short peacock thorax up toward the bead.
  5. Tie a stubby tuft of CDC or antron over the thorax as an emerging wing bud, trimmed short, and pull a few pheasant tips back as legs.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead, snip, and add a drop of cement.
