Peyote Palolo

Worm · Tarpon · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook heavy short-shank saltwater hook, 1-2
  • Thread red 140 denier

Materials

  • 2mm closed-cell foam (tail) Red craft foam mm (3-inch strip)
  • Diamond braid (body) Olive micro tinsel fibres (as needed)
  • EP Foxy brush Tan/olive carapace (1)
  • UV resin or head cement Clear uv resin (small amount)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lash a three-inch strip of red 2mm foam along the top of the shank so the long tail waves behind the hook as the worm's body.
  2. Bind olive diamond braid at the front and wrap it back over the shank and butt of the foam, then forward again to cover the shank fully.
  3. Tie in an EP Foxy brush and wind it forward over the front third to subdue the braid's shine and build a head that pushes a V-wake.
  4. Trim the brush to shape, tapering it so the fly wakes cleanly on the strip.
  5. Whip finish at the eye, snip, and add a small drop of resin to lock the head.
