Materials

  • Tying thread or Superfloss (body) Black floss (as needed)
  • Holographic tinsel rib Red or silver flash (1 strand)
  • Glass or tungsten bead Black or silver bead (1)
  • White antron or poly (gills) White poly yarn (small tuft)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Build a slim, even body of thread from behind the bead down to the point and back, keeping it wispy-thin like a real pupa.
  3. Counter-wrap the holographic rib forward in 6-8 open, even turns and tie off behind the bead.
  4. Tie a short tuft of white antron just behind the bead, standing up as breathing gills, and trim to a stub.
  5. Whip finish, snip, then coat the slim body with a thin layer of UV resin and cure to a glossy shell.
