Reference Recipe

  • Hook long-shank saltwater hook (Daiichi X472 or similar), 2
  • Thread beige 150 denier

Materials

  • Black brass dumbbell eyes (3/16") Nickel black dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
  • Slinky Fiber Shrimp (small clump)
  • Angel Hair Pearl flashabou (few strands)
  • Magnum Zonker strip Tan rabbit strip (2 inches)
  • Centipede legs Clear tan rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • Krystal Flash UV tan flash (few strands)
  • Glass bead eyes (3mm) on fluorocarbon Red bead (1 pair)
  • Crosscut Zonker strip Tan rabbit strip (as needed)
  • UV/epoxy resin Clear uv resin (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Lash the black dumbbell eyes near the front of the shank with tight figure-eight wraps so the fly rides hook-point up.
  2. At the rear, tie in a shrimp Slinky Fiber foundation with a pearl Angel Hair veil, folding for volume.
  3. Bind a two-inch tan Magnum Zonker strip over the hook point as the upper tail so it undulates.
  4. Add a folded clear-tan centipede leg on each side, then a few strands of UV tan Krystal flash.
  5. Mount the red glass bead eyes on fluorocarbon along the sides, positioned like crab eye stalks.
  6. Wrap the crosscut Zonker body forward to just behind the dumbbell, tie off, and whip finish.
  7. Coat the thread wraps and eye stalks with UV resin and cure to lock everything down.
