Nymph · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook jig or standard nymph hook, 14-20
  • Thread black 12/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold bead (1)
  • Coq de Leon fibers Pardo/natural (small bunch)
  • Body thread Olive or black body thread (as needed)
  • Hot-spot thread Orange hot spot thread (few turns)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead to the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a sparse Coq de Leon tail about one half shank long at the bend.
  3. Build a slim, smooth, tapered body forward with the body thread, keeping it no thicker than needed and stopping short of the bead.
  4. Wrap a few turns of orange hot-spot thread right behind the bead as a trigger and whip finish.
  5. Snip the thread, then coat the entire body and hot spot with a thin, even layer of UV resin and cure hard.
