How to tie it
Mount a curved nymph hook and wrap 10 turns of lead wire over the front half of the shank, bind it down and taper the thread over the ends.
Start brown thread and wrap back to the bend.
Cut a short length of cream or green yarn, burn one end so it forms a small rounded head, and tie it in at the bend with the burnt end projecting past the bend. That is the larva peeping out of its case, and it is the point of the pattern.
Catch in gold wire at the bend.
Dub a chunky, rough case body of hare's ear with the guard hairs left in, forward over the rest of the shank.
Spiral the gold wire forward in 5 open turns and helicopter off the excess.
Pick the dubbing out hard so the case looks like debris rather than dubbing.
Take one sparse turn of partridge at the head as legs, sweep the fibres back, build a small head, whip finish and cement.
