Materials

  • Bead ASG Competition Beads 4mm Mottled Brown
  • Body Pearl Core Braid - Orange
  • Dubbing SLF Spikey Squirrel - Natural Gray
  • Hackle Whiting Farms Grizz Cape

How to tie it

  1. Wrap a lead-free underbody and cover it with thread; tie in the gold wire at the bend.
  2. Dub a rough, shaggy dark-brown case over the rear two-thirds of the shank.
  3. Rib forward with 4-5 open turns of gold wire and tie off.
  4. At the front third, dub a short band of burnt-orange dubbing as the October caddis larva peeking from the case.
  5. Tie in a brown hackle and take 1-2 turns of sparse legs swept rearward.
  6. Finish with 2 turns of black herl for the head, whip finish and cement.
