  • Hook Curved nymph / caddis hook, 2X long, 6-12
  • Thread Brown 6/0

Materials

  • Lead-free wire - (underbody)
  • Dark hare's ear / brown dubbing Dark brown dubbing (case (rear two-thirds))
  • Gold wire Gold wire (rib over case)
  • Bright dubbing Burnt orange (peeking larva (front))
  • Brown or black hackle Brown hackle (legs)
  • Ostrich or peacock herl Black ostrich or peacock herl (head)

How to tie it

  1. Wrap a lead-free underbody and cover it with thread; tie in the gold wire at the bend.
  2. Dub a rough, shaggy dark-brown case over the rear two-thirds of the shank.
  3. Rib forward with 4-5 open turns of gold wire and tie off.
  4. At the front third, dub a short band of burnt-orange dubbing as the October caddis larva peeking from the case.
  5. Tie in a brown hackle and take 1-2 turns of sparse legs swept rearward.
  6. Finish with 2 turns of black herl for the head, whip finish and cement.
