How to tie it
Slide a pearl glass bead onto the hook. Start black thread on the shank and secure it; snip the tag.
Double a length of thread and tie it in, securing it back toward the bend, then leave it hanging at the rear for later (it will split the tail).
Pull three black pheasant-tail fibers, measure them about half a shank length, and tie them in on top, wrapping back toward the bend; trim the excess.
Pull the reserved rear thread up through the tail so one thread ends up on each side of the middle fiber, then secure it forward to splay the three fibers into a three-point tail.
Tie in a length of extra-small black wire and wrap it back toward the tail; leave it.
Dub a fine olive noodle and wrap forward in touching turns, occasionally wrapping back to build a slight taper toward the head; stop short to leave room for the thorax.
Counter-wrap the black wire forward over the dubbed body for segmentation and durability; tie off and helicopter the excess.
Tie in a strand of opal lateral-scale flash on top, wrap back to the dubbing, then build a bit more dubbing forward to continue the transition, stopping just short of the bead.
Trim a grey CDC feather tip into a triangle, tie it in triangle-facing-rearward on top with a few fibers pulled back, then fold the lateral-scale flash forward over the top and secure loosely; pull the CDC to shorten the fibers to about the end of the body.
Secure everything with wraps front and behind and trim. Optionally spin a loose dubbing noodle just in front, pull it back and brush it out for a buggy thorax; whip finish.
