  • Hook Standard dry-fly / midge hook, 20-24
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Pearl tinsel / Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (butt)
  • Tying thread or fine dubbing Black dubbing (body)
  • Microfibbets or hackle fibers Dun/white microfibbets or hackle fibers (split tails)
  • Poly yarn or hackle White/dun poly yarn or hackle (spent wings or post)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and wrap to the bend, then tie in a short pearl tag/butt right at the bend for a bright egg-sac trigger.
  2. Split two or three light Microfibbet tail fibers slightly longer than the shank using a thread bump to divide them.
  3. Build a slim black abdomen forward with thread to the 65% mark.
  4. Tie in a short section of white poly yarn across the shank and figure-8 it into spent wings (or post it upright for a parachute).
  5. Dub a tiny black thorax around the wing base to fill it out.
  6. Whip finish a small head and cement.
