Classic Recipe

  • Hook Daiichi 2461 articulated, 1 (front), 2 (rear)
  • Thread to match body color (olive, black, tan or white) UTC 140 or 6/0

Materials

  • Rear hook Daiichi 2461 #2 (1)
  • Tail Strung marabou (1 plume)
  • Flash Lateral Scale (2 strands)
  • Rear hackle Barred saddle hackle (1)
  • Body Ice Dub (2 clumps)
  • Wings Strung marabou (2 plumes)
  • Legs Fly Enhancer rubber legs (4-6)
  • Connection Senyo Intruder wire + 3D beads (1 length, 2-3 beads)
  • Front hook Daiichi 2461 #1 (1)
  • Cone Large brass cone (1)
  • Front hackle Barred saddle hackle (1)

How to tie it

  1. Rear hook: tie in a full marabou tail one shank length long with a strand of Lateral Scale down each side.
  2. Tie in a barred saddle at the tail base, dub an Ice Dub body over the rear two-thirds of the shank, then palmer the saddle forward in 4-5 open turns.
  3. Tie a marabou plume flat over the top as a wing, add a rubber leg on each side, and whip finish.
  4. Front hook: slide the cone on, then lash Intruder wire down the shank, thread 2-3 beads on it, loop through the rear hook eye and lash the wire back down. The beads keep the loop open so the rear hook swings freely.
  5. Repeat the rear-hook sequence on the front hook: saddle hackle, Ice Dub body palmered through, marabou wing over the top, legs at the sides.
  6. Take 2 more turns of saddle as a collar behind the cone, whip finish, and seat everything into the cone with a drop of glue.
