How to tie it
Slot the 3.5mm silver micro bead onto the size 16 J100 and start black Sumo 30 denier thread.
Tie in a peacock quill by the tip at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns to the 70% mark, so the natural light and dark banding of the quill segments the body for you.
Coat the quill body with varnish or thin UV resin. Bare quill is fragile and this step is what makes the fly last more than a couple of fish.
Dub a small squirrel thorax behind the bead, but instead of building a bright collar, lay a few orange UV-reactive thread fibres in between the thorax wraps so they are half-buried. This is the point of the fly. Most nymphs wear an obvious orange collar, which can be too visible for cautious fish in clear water, so here the trigger only shows when light catches it.
Add a very sparse turn of natural grey CDC as a collar behind the bead and whip finish.
Fish it in clear or pressured rivers, especially for autumn grayling, where a loud hot spot gets refused.
