Slide the bead on, push it back out of the way and start brown olive thread right behind the eye. Tie in the Uni-Stretch gills there, whip finish and cut the thread. Doing the gills first means the bead can be slid forward to hide all the butts.
Slide the bead up over the gill tie-in and restart the thread behind it, then tie in a length of silver wire followed by a strand of Flashabou #6972, running both back to the bend.
Wind the Flashabou forward in touching turns to build the body, tie it off behind the bead and trim.
Counter-rib with the silver wire in even open spirals to the bead. Going the opposite way to the body material keeps the wire sitting on top of the Flashabou instead of slipping into the grooves, which is what gives clean segmentation.
Tie the wire off and helicopter it to break it cleanly, then wrap a few turns of peacock herl behind the bead for the thorax.
Tie the herl off, whip finish, and trim the gills back to roughly the length of the bead so they stand up as two short tufts.
