Materials
Crystal chenille (body) Silver Doctor blue (3 inches)
Saddle hackle (under hackle) Purple saddle hackle (1 short feather)
Peacock breast feather (hackle) Iridescent blue peacock breast feather (1 feather)
Golden pheasant breast feather (wing) Dyed black golden pheasant breast feather (1 feather)
How to tie it
Mount the spey hook and lay a black thread base. This version carries no tag and no tail. The crystal chenille is shiny enough on its own.
Tie in the Silver Doctor blue crystal chenille at the rear and wrap it forward in touching turns, stopping well short of the eye to leave room for two hackles, a wing and a head. Tie off and trim.
Strip the fluff from a purple saddle hackle and tie it in by the butt at the front of the body. Take two or three turns as a veiling under-hackle, tie off and clip the excess.
Tie in the blue peacock breast feather by its tip, fold the barbules back and wind two or three turns, massaging the fibers back as you go so they do not twist. It should flare out like a spider hackle.
Wing: lay a black-dyed golden pheasant breast feather flat on top of the fly for silhouette, secure it with a couple of tight wraps, then fold the butt back over and wrap down over it so it cannot pull out. Trim.
Build a slightly oversized head, whip finish and add head cement.
