Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved nymph / stonefly hook, 3X long, 6-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Variegated chenille Purple/black variegated chenille (body)
  • Round rubber legs Black or black-barred rubber legs (3 pairs plus tails and antennae)
  • Lead-free wire - (optional underbody)

How to tie it

  1. Add an optional lead-free underbody over the middle of the shank and cover with thread.
  2. Tie in two rubber-leg tips at the bend as splayed tails about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the purple/black variegated chenille at the bend and advance the thread forward.
  4. Wind the chenille forward, figure-8ing a pair of legs at the one-third and two-thirds points.
  5. Take the chenille to the 85% mark and tie off, then tie two leg tips at the head as forward antennae.
  6. Form the head, whip finish and cement; trim tails and antennae to shank length and side legs to reach the point.
