Pat's Black Rubber Leg

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved nymph / stonefly hook, 3X long, 6-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Chenille Black chenille (body)
  • Round rubber legs Black or black-barred rubber legs (3 pairs plus tails and antennae)
  • Lead-free wire - (optional underbody)

How to tie it

  1. Add an optional lead-free underbody over the center of the shank and cover it with thread.
  2. Tie in two black rubber-leg tips at the bend as splayed tails about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in black chenille at the bend and advance the thread forward.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward, stopping to figure-8 a pair of rubber legs at the one-third and two-thirds points.
  5. Take the chenille to the 85% mark and tie off, then tie two more leg tips at the head as forward antennae.
  6. Form the head, whip finish and cement; trim legs so tails and antennae are shank-length and side legs reach the point.
