Rig a loop of 20 lb backing through the eye of the octopus stinger hook and lash both tag ends along the shank, leaving a short gap so the hook rides just off the rear of the shank; whip and cement this junction.
Restart the thread at the rear of the shank and tie in a sparse tail of yellow reflector flash about one shank length long.
Tie in a schlappen feather by the tip at the rear.
Wind the thread forward to the 80% mark, then palmer the schlappen forward in open, wet turns, stroking fibers back, and tie off; this makes a soft, pulsing body.
Figure-8 a pair of medium pseudo/dumbbell eyes on top of the shank near the front so the fly rides hook-point up.
Build a smooth thread head around the eyes, whip finish and cement.
