  • Thread yellow 8/0

Materials

  • Dry fly hackle Ginger or light dun dry fly hackle (1 feather)
  • Poly yarn (post) Hi-vis yellow or white (small clump)
  • Elk or deer hair (wing) Light natural roe deer hair (small clump)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Dub a slim, tapered pale yellow body from the bend to the 60% mark; add a touch of red dubbing at the tail for the egg sac if desired.
  3. Clean and stack a small clump of light elk hair; tie it in as a down wing, tips just past the bend, and trim the butts.
  4. Stand a hi-vis post at the 60% mark with criss-cross turns and a front thread dam.
  5. Dub a small thorax in front of the post.
  6. Tie in the ginger hackle at the post and wind 4-5 turns down the post, then secure.
  7. Sweep the fibers up, whip finish at the eye, and cement the post base.
