Materials
- Dry fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
- Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small clump)
- Moose or hare's mask fibers (tail) Natural hare s ear dubbing (small bunch)
- Hare's ear / Ultra Hare dubbing Natural tan hare s ear dubbing (pinch)
How to tie it
- Lay a thread base and tie in a tail of moose or hare's mask guard hairs one shank length long.
- Stand a white post at the 65% mark with criss-cross turns and a front thread dam.
- Dub a shaggy, tapered hare's ear body from the bend up to and past the post.
- Tie in the grizzly hackle at the post and wind 4-5 turns down the post, then secure.
- Sweep the fibers up, whip finish at the eye, and cement the post base.
- Pick out the dubbing with a bodkin to raise a buggy halo of guard hairs.
