Materials

  • Dry fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
  • Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small clump)
  • Moose or hare's mask fibers (tail) Natural hare s ear dubbing (small bunch)
  • Hare's ear / Ultra Hare dubbing Natural tan hare s ear dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base and tie in a tail of moose or hare's mask guard hairs one shank length long.
  2. Stand a white post at the 65% mark with criss-cross turns and a front thread dam.
  3. Dub a shaggy, tapered hare's ear body from the bend up to and past the post.
  4. Tie in the grizzly hackle at the post and wind 4-5 turns down the post, then secure.
  5. Sweep the fibers up, whip finish at the eye, and cement the post base.
  6. Pick out the dubbing with a bodkin to raise a buggy halo of guard hairs.
