Materials

  • Dry fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
  • Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small clump)
  • Elk or deer hair (wing) Natural tan deer hair (small clump)
  • Dry fly dubbing Tan/cream dry fly dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Dub a fat, tapered tan body from the bend up to the 60% mark.
  3. Clean and stack a clump of tan elk hair; tie it in as a down wing over the body, tips just past the bend, and trim the butts.
  4. Stand a white post at the 60% mark with criss-cross turns and a front thread dam.
  5. Dub a small thorax in front of the post.
  6. Tie in the grizzly hackle at the post and wind 4-5 turns down the post, then secure.
  7. Sweep the fibers up, whip finish at the eye, and cement the post base.
