Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 10-14
  • Thread tan 8/0

Materials

  • Dry fly hackle Brown and grizzly mixed (1-2 feathers)
  • Poly yarn (post) Tan or hi-vis (small clump)
  • Brown hackle fibers or pheasant tail (tail) Brown hackle fibers (small bunch)
  • Dry fly dubbing Amber/tan (March Brown) (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base and tie in a brown tail one shank length long.
  2. Stand a post at the 60% mark with criss-cross turns and a front thread dam.
  3. Dub a tapered amber-tan body from the bend to the post.
  4. Dub a small thorax in front of the post.
  5. Tie in the brown and grizzly hackles together at the post and wind 5-6 turns down the post, then secure.
  6. Sweep the fibers up, whip finish at the eye, and cement the post base.
