  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 14-18

Materials

  • Fine dry-fly dubbing Tan or olive dry fly dubbing (small pinch)
  • Deer or elk hair (down-wing) Natural deer hair (small clump)
  • Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small tuft)
  • Dry-fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and dub a slim tapered body from the bend forward to the 65% mark.
  2. Tie in an upright white post at 65% and collar its base to stand it up.
  3. Stack a small clump of deer hair and tie it in as a down-wing over the body, tips reaching just past the bend; trim the butts.
  4. Tie a grizzly hackle in at the post, shiny side up, and dub a small thorax over the wing butts.
  5. Wind the hackle parachute-style in 4-6 turns and tie off against the post.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
