  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 16-22
  • Thread olive 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibetts (tail) Dun microfibetts (a few fibers)
  • Stripped peacock or dyed quill Olive peacock herl dyed (1 quill)
  • Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small tuft)
  • Dry-fly hackle Blue dun hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in an upright white post at the 65% mark, collaring its base.
  2. Tie in a sparse dun tail at the bend, one shank length long.
  3. Tie in a stripped olive quill at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns to the post to form a slim, naturally segmented body; tie off.
  4. Tie a blue-dun hackle in at the post, shiny side up, and dub a small thorax.
  5. Wind the hackle parachute-style in 4-5 turns and tie off against the post.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle and the fragile quill.
