- Hook 2XL dry-fly hook, 10-12
- Thread brown 8/0
Materials
- Moose body hair (tail) Dark moose body hair (3 fibers)
- Dry-fly dubbing Tan-brown dry fly dubbing (pinch)
- Poly yarn or calf hair (post) Dark gray poly yarn or calf hair (small clump)
- Dry-fly hackle 1 grizzly + 1 brown dry fly hackle (2 feathers)
How to tie it
- Start the thread and tie in three splayed moose-hair tail fibers at the bend, about one shank length.
- Tie in an upright dark post at the 65% mark and collar its base to stand it up.
- Dub a plump, lightly segmented tan-brown body from the bend to the post.
- Tie one grizzly and one brown hackle in at the post, shiny side up.
- Dub a fuller thorax around the post base and up to the eye.
- Wind both hackles parachute-style in 5-6 turns and tie off against the post.
- Whip finish at the eye and add a drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
