Materials

  • Microfibetts (tail) Dun microfibetts (a few fibers)
  • Fine dry-fly dubbing Olive ice dub (small pinch)
  • Poly yarn (post) Blue dun/gray poly yarn (small tuft)
  • Dry-fly hackle Blue dun hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in an upright blue-dun poly post at the 65% mark, collaring its base.
  2. Tie in a sparse dun tail at the bend, one shank length long.
  3. Dub a slim olive body from the bend to the post.
  4. Tie a blue-dun hackle in at the post, shiny side up.
  5. Dub a small thorax around the post base and up to the eye.
  6. Wind the hackle parachute-style in 4-5 turns and tie off against the post.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
