Parachute post White uni stretch (1 small clump poly yarn or calf body hair)
Tail Black ostrich herl (6-8 hackle fibers)
Body dubbing Black dubbing (thin pinch)
Parachute hackle Black or grizzly saddle hackle (1 feather)
How to tie it
Start thread behind the eye and wrap back to the 70% mark. Tie in an upright white poly post there, then wrap around its base a few turns to stand it up and build a firm collar for the hackle.
Bind a small bunch of black hackle fibers along the top of the shank back to the bend for the tail, one shank length long; trim the butts.
Dub a slim black body from the bend forward to the base of the post. Use half the dubbing you think you need so the fly floats flush.
Tie in the hackle by its bare stem at the post base, shiny side up.
Wind the hackle 4-5 turns horizontally around the post, each turn stacked under the last, then trap the tip with 2-3 thread wraps in front of the post and snip it.
Dub a tiny thorax to the eye, whip finish under the hackle so you don't trap fibers, and touch a drop of cement to the post base only.
