Terrestrial · Trout · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 14-20
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • Fine dry-fly dubbing Black dubbing (small pinch)
  • Poly yarn (hi-vis post) Fluorescent orange poly yarn (small tuft)
  • Dry-fly hackle Black hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and dub a shiny, rounded rear hump over the back third of the shank.
  2. At the midpoint, tie in an upright fluorescent orange post and collar its base.
  3. Tie a black hackle in at the post base, shiny side up.
  4. Dub the front hump forward to behind the eye, leaving a pinched bare waist between the humps.
  5. Wind the hackle parachute-style in 3-5 turns and tie off against the post.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
