  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 12-18
  • Thread gray 8/0

Materials

  • Poly yarn (hi-vis post) Fluorescent pink or orange poly yarn (small tuft)
  • Hackle barbs (tail) Mixed brown and grizzly (small bunch)
  • Adams gray dubbing Muskrat gray (small pinch)
  • Dry-fly hackle 1 brown + 1 grizzly dry fly hackle (2 feathers)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in an upright fluorescent poly post at the 70% mark, collaring its base to stand it up.
  2. Tie in a mixed brown-and-grizzly tail at the bend, one shank length long.
  3. Dub a slim gray body from the bend to the post.
  4. Tie one grizzly and one brown hackle in at the post, shiny side up.
  5. Dub a small thorax around the post base and up to the eye.
  6. Wind both hackles parachute-style in 4-6 turns and tie off against the post.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
