Reference Recipe
- Hook 2XL dry-fly hook, 8-14
- Thread tan 6/0
Materials
- Deer hair (tail and body) Natural deer hair (2 clumps)
- Round rubber legs White rubber legs small (2 pairs)
- Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small tuft)
- Dry-fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
How to tie it
- Lay a thread base to the bend and tie in a short deer-hair tail, about half a shank long.
- Tie in a bundle of deer hair by the tips at the bend, tips rearward, and lay the butts forward out of the way.
- Wrap the thread forward to the 70% mark, then pull the deer hair over the top and bind it down at 70% to form a segmented body.
- Tie in an upright white post at 70% and collar its base to stand it up.
- Tie a grizzly hackle in at the post, then bind a pair of white rubber legs on each side of the body in a splayed X.
- Wind the hackle parachute-style around the post in 4-6 turns and tie off against the post.
- Whip finish at the eye and add a drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
