Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 16-22
  • Thread olive 8/0

Materials

  • Z-lon or Antron (trailing shuck) Brown zelon (small sparse clump)
  • Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small tuft)
  • Fine dry-fly dubbing Olive ice dub (small pinch)
  • Dry-fly hackle Blue dun hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in a sparse brown Z-lon trailing shuck at the bend, short.
  2. Tie in an upright white post at the 65% mark and collar its base to stand it up.
  3. Dub a slim olive abdomen from the bend forward to the post.
  4. Tie a blue-dun hackle in at the post, shiny side up.
  5. Dub a slightly fuller olive thorax around the post base and up to the eye.
  6. Wind the hackle parachute-style in 3-5 turns and tie off against the post.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement.
