Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry-fly hook, 10-12
  • Thread blue 8/0

Materials

  • 2mm foam or dubbed mono (extended body) Electric blue (1 thin strip)
  • Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small tuft)
  • Dry-fly hackle Grizzly dyed blue dry fly hackle (1 feather)
  • Fine dry-fly dubbing (thorax) Blue ice dub (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and bind a thin strip of blue foam (or dubbing-wrapped mono) along the top of the shank so a slim abdomen extends about one and a half shank lengths past the bend.
  2. Tie in an upright white post at the 65% mark and collar its base.
  3. Tie a blue-dyed grizzly hackle in at the post, shiny side up.
  4. Dub a short blue thorax around the post base and forward to the eye.
  5. Wind the hackle parachute-style in 4-5 turns and tie off against the post.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
