Reference Recipe
- Hook standard dry-fly hook, 14-20
- Thread black 8/0
Materials
- Fine dry-fly dubbing Black dubbing (small pinch)
- Poly yarn (post) White poly yarn (small tuft)
- Dry-fly hackle Black hackle (1 feather)
How to tie it
- Start the thread and dub a shiny, rounded rear hump (the gaster) over the back third of the shank.
- At the midpoint, tie in an upright white post and collar its base so it stands.
- Tie a black hackle in at the base of the post, shiny side up.
- Dub the front hump (the head) forward to behind the eye, leaving a pinched, bare waist between the two humps.
- Wind the hackle around the post parachute-style in 3-5 turns and tie it off against the post.
- Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
