  • Thread olive-brown 8/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Gold bead (1)
  • Micro fibetts Tan carapace (3 for tail, 2 for antennae)
  • Turkey biot or PMD dubbing Olive-brown fine dubbing (1 biot or small pinch)
  • Fine copper wire Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Opal/pearl flash Pearl flashabou (1 wide strand for wingcase)
  • PMD thorax dubbing PMD amber (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold tungsten bead to the eye and start the thread behind it.
  2. Tie in three tan fibetts at the bend and split them into a short, spread tail no longer than half the shank.
  3. Bind in the copper wire rib and a wide strand of opal flash at the bend, both pointing rearward.
  4. Dub or wrap a slim tapered abdomen of olive-brown up to the 60% mark.
  5. Counter-wrap the wire forward in 5-6 open turns to segment the abdomen, then break it off.
  6. Dub a noticeably fuller amber thorax up to behind the bead.
  7. Pull the opal flash forward over the thorax as a broad, oversized wingcase and bind it behind the bead, keeping it wide and prominent.
  8. Tie in two short tan fibetts angled forward over the bead as antennae, whip finish, and cement.
