Panfish Popper

Terrestrial · Panfish · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Beginner · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Light wire hook, 8-12
  • Thread Assorted 6/0

Materials

  • Body Small foam popper body (1)
  • Tail Marabou or rubber legs (short)
  • Legs Small rubber legs (1-2 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a small foam popper body onto the light-wire hook and seat with glue.
  2. Tie in a short marabou tail behind it. Keep it modest; bluegill mouths are small and a long tail earns short strikes.
  3. Add a pair of fine rubber legs.
  4. Whip finish.

Substitutions

  • Body instead of Small foam popper body: Surface Seducer small popper — Pre-shaped foam; DIY foam cylinder — Cut from sheet foam
  • Tail instead of Marabou or rubber legs: Marabou puff — Soft, flowing tail; Rubber legs only — Simpler, still effective
