Bead or lead dumbbell eyes Gold / black / plated dumbbell eyes (1)
Rabbit strip or marabou (claws) Brown / olive rabbit strip or marabou (2 short pieces)
Rubber legs Barred brown rubber legs (2-3 pairs)
Dubbing or cross-cut rabbit (body) Brown / olive dubbing or cross cut rabbit (1 length)
Thin Skin / Scud Back (carapace) Mottled brown thin skin (1 strip)
Wire (rib) Copper wire (1 length)
How to tie it
Add weight at the head, either a bead at the eye or dumbbell eyes lashed on top so the fly rides hook-up; start the thread.
At the bend tie in two short rabbit-strip or marabou claws, splayed in a V, each about one shank length, with a couple of rubber legs between them.
Tie in a strip of Thin Skin for the carapace and a copper rib, both pointing to the rear.
Dub a fat, buggy body (or palmer cross-cut rabbit) forward to the head, adding a pair of rubber legs on each side as you go.
Pull the Thin Skin carapace over the top and rib the copper wire forward over it in 4-5 evenly spaced turns to segment the shell; tie off and break off the wire.
Build a head around the weight, whip finish and add a drop of cement.
