Classic Recipe

• Hook Standard midge, 18-24
• Thread Black 8/0

Materials

• Body Black thread (slender)
• Wing/Thorax White or cream CDC or poly (small puff)
• Rib Fine gold wire (optional)

How to tie it

1. Mount hook with fine thread, build a slender tapered body to the 75% mark.
2. Optional: counter-wrap fine gold wire in 4 turns.
3. Tie in a small white or cream puff of CDC or poly at the thorax, 4-5 fibers.
4. Whip finish with a minimal head.

Substitutions

• Wing/Thorax instead of White or cream CDC or poly: White poly yarn (tiny puff) — More visible; White Aero Dry Wing — Bright and buoyant
• Body instead of Black thread: Olive thread — Olive midge variant; Brown thread — Brown midge variant
