  • Hook Curved emerger hook (e.g. TMC 2487), 16-18
  • Thread Pale yellow 8/0

Materials

  • Marabou or Zelon (trailing shuck) Brown / amber marabou or zelon (small wisp)
  • Pheasant tail fibers (abdomen) Natural pheasant tail fibers (few fibers)
  • Deer hair (wing) Natural deer hair (1 small clump)
  • Dry-fly dubbing (thorax) PMD / pale yellow-olive (pinch)
  • Rooster hackle Ginger or grizzly dry fly hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a short trailing shuck of brown marabou or Zelon at the bend, about one-third of the shank.
  2. Tie in a few pheasant-tail fibers and wrap them forward as a slim curved abdomen to the 55% mark so the body dips down toward the shuck.
  3. Stack a small clump of deer hair and tie it in as an upright wing at the 60% mark; trim the butts.
  4. Tie in the hackle behind the wing, then dub a PMD-colored thorax around the wing base.
  5. Wrap the hackle 3-4 turns through the thorax, a couple behind and a couple in front of the wing.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and add a drop of cement.
