  • Hook Curved emerger / scud hook (e.g. TMC 2487), 16-20
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Zelon / Antron (trailing shuck) Amber / brown z lon (small wisp)
  • Dry-fly dubbing (abdomen & thorax) Light olive / PMD (pinch)
  • Poly yarn (parachute post) White or light dun poly yarn (1 short tuft)
  • Rooster hackle Grizzly or dun hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a sparse trailing shuck of Zelon at the bend, length one-half to two-thirds of the shank.
  2. Dub a slim, lightly tapered abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in an upright poly post at the 60% mark and post the base with a few thread turns.
  4. Tie in the hackle against the post, then dub the thorax around and in front of the post over the front 20% of the shank.
  5. Wrap the hackle parachute-style around the post, 3-5 turns.
  6. Pull the hackle tip forward and down and tie it off behind the eye so the fly slumps into the film with a crippled posture; trim.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and add a tiny drop of cement.
