Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy barbless grub / jig hook, 18-20
  • Thread Olive 18-denier (fine)

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Black nickel or silver bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Stripped peacock quill Natural peacock herl (1 quill)
  • UV resin (optional) Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted tungsten bead at the eye and start the fine thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a soaked, stripped peacock quill by its tip at the bend.
  3. Wrap a smooth thread underbody up to just behind the bead and back so the quill has a clean base.
  4. Wrap the quill forward in touching turns to build a naturally segmented, tapered body; tie off behind the bead and trim.
  5. Optionally brush a thin coat of UV resin over the quill and cure it for durability and shine.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a pin drop of cement.
