  • Hook Barbless jig/grub nymph hook (Fulling Mill), 14-16
  • Thread Black 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Orange slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Coq de Leon fibers (tail) Natural coq de leon fibers (small bunch)
  • Pheasant tail fibers (body) Natural pheasant tail fibers (5-6)
  • Copper wire (rib) Copper wire (0.2mm)
  • Tinsel, medium (wing case) Pearl/silver tinsel medium (short piece)
  • Hare's ear dubbing (thorax) Natural hare s ear dubbing (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide an orange slotted tungsten bead onto the barbless grub hook, slot facing up, rock it forward, and secure the hook in the vise.
  2. Start the thread and tie in a few Coq de Leon fibers for a short tail.
  3. Tie in pheasant tail fibers (tips trimmed) at the rear and a length of 0.2mm copper wire alongside them.
  4. Add a small touch of Zap-A-Gap, then wrap the pheasant tail forward to the bead to form the body.
  5. Counter-wrap the copper wire forward through the body for a durable rib and helicopter off.
  6. Tie in a short piece of medium tinsel for a stubby wing case.
  7. Dub a small hare's ear thorax behind the bead.
  8. Pull the tinsel over the thorax as a short flashy wing case and secure it.
  9. Whip finish behind the bead and pick out the dubbing.
