Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet fly, 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Golden pheasant tippet (small bunch)
  • Body (rear/front) Peacock herl (2-3 strands)
  • Body (center band) Orange floss (1 strand)
  • Hackle Brown hen hackle (1)
  • Wing White duck quill slips (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a short tippet tail at the bend.
  2. Wrap a small ball of twisted peacock herl at the rear third.
  3. Wrap an orange floss band over the middle third, the Royal Coachman idea with orange in place of red.
  4. Wrap a second peacock ball to the 75% mark, then wind 2-3 turns of brown hen hackle.
  5. Set the white quill wings low over the body and whip finish.
