Olive Spinner CdC

Dry Fly · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly, 14-20
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibett tails Dun/pale material (2-3 fibers)
  • Body (thread or stripped quill) Olive veevus body quill (as needed)
  • CDC spent wings Natural dun cdc feather (1 bunch)
  • Thorax dubbing Olive ice dub (tiny pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Start olive thread at the 70% mark and wrap a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in two or three microfibetts and split them into a wide V tail one shank length long.
  3. Wrap or dub a very slim olive body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Tie in a bunch of natural dun CDC across the hook and figure-8 it flat into spent wings, one to each side.
  5. Dub a sparse thorax over the wing roots to lock them in the spent, outstretched position.
  6. Whip finish and add a tiny drop of cement; keep the whole fly sparse so it lies flush in the film.
