Olive Quill Nymph Brown (TBH) B/L

Nymph · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless nymph hook, 14-18
  • Thread Brown 12/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Copper bead (1)
  • Coq de Leon tail fibers Natural pardo (small bunch)
  • Stripped quill body Olive veevus body quill (1)
  • Thread thorax/collar Brown thread (a few turns)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a copper tungsten bead onto the barbless hook and seat it against the eye.
  2. Start brown thread and lay a smooth base back to the bend.
  3. Tie in a sparse coq de leon tail one shank length long.
  4. Tie in a prepared olive stripped quill by its fine tip at the bend.
  5. Wrap the quill forward in touching turns to the thorax to form a naturally segmented, translucent body, then tie off.
  6. Build a short brown thread thorax/collar behind the bead and whip finish.
  7. Coat the quill body with a thin layer of UV resin so the fragile quill survives trout teeth, then cure.
