Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig or standard nymph hook, 14-18
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Copper bead Copper bead (1)
  • Tail fibers Pheasant tail / pardo (small bunch)
  • Dubbing or thread body Olive ice dub (small pinch)
  • Wire rib Copper wire (short length)
  • Thorax dubbing Peacock / dark olive thorax dubbing (small pinch)
  • Hot spot thread collar Fluorescent orange thread (a few turns)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a copper bead onto the hook and seat it against the eye.
  2. Start olive thread, wrap to the bend, and tie in a few pheasant-tail or coq fibers as a short tail, half a shank long.
  3. Tie in fine copper wire, then wrap a slim olive body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper rib in 5-6 evenly spaced turns, tie off, and helicopter to break the wire.
  5. Dub a peacock or dark-olive thorax up to just short of the bead.
  6. Build a bright fluorescent-orange thread collar between the thorax and bead as the hot spot, then whip finish.
