Olive Elk Wing Caddis

  • Hook Standard dry fly, 14-16
  • Thread Tan 8/0

Materials

  • Dubbing body Olive ice dub (small pinch)
  • Palmer hackle Brown hackle (1 feather)
  • Elk hair wing Natural/bleached elk hair (small bunch)

How to tie it

  1. Start tan thread at the 80% mark and lay a base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a brown dry hackle by the tip at the bend.
  3. Dub a slim olive body forward to the 80% mark.
  4. Palmer the hackle forward through the body in 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns and tie off, leaving room at the eye.
  5. Clean and stack a bunch of elk hair; measure it to reach just past the bend and tie it in as a down-wing, tips to the rear.
  6. Trim the butt ends square to form a small head, whip finish over the trimmed butts, and add a drop of cement.
