Olive CDC Emerger

Emerger · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 2 versions

Classic Recipe

  • Hook curved emerger / scud, 16-22
  • Thread olive 8/0

Materials

  • Shuck/tail Brown or amber Antron fibers (optional) (small tuft)
  • Abdomen Olive Hare's Ice Dub (or olive Superfine) (as needed)
  • Wing/case Natural dun cdc feather (1-2)
  • Thorax Olive with a touch of rusty-orange Ice Dub (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base around the curve; optionally tie in a short trailing Antron shuck at the bend.
  2. Make a slim dubbing noodle of olive Ice Dub and wrap a tapered abdomen over the rear two-thirds.
  3. Tie in one or two natural dun CDC feathers by the tips at the front of the abdomen, tips pointing rearward.
  4. Dub a small olive/rusty thorax, leaving the CDC free.
  5. Fold the CDC forward over the thorax to form a puffy emerging wing/case and tie it down behind the eye, trimming the butts to a short stub.
  6. Whip finish; do not apply gel floatant. The CDC floats the fly in the film.
