  • Hook Curved caddis/scud hook, 12-16
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Gold bead Gold bead (1)
  • Dubbing body Caddis-larva olive (small pinch)
  • Wire rib Gold wire (short length)
  • Hare's ear dubbing thorax Dark brown dubbing (small pinch)
  • Lead-free wire (optional) Silver lead free wire (a few turns)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead onto the curved hook and seat it against the eye.
  2. Start olive thread and lay a base to the bend, adding a few turns of lead-free wire under the thorax for weight if desired.
  3. Tie in fine gold wire for the rib at the bend.
  4. Dub a slim olive body forward to the 75% mark, keeping it deliberately slender; use half the dubbing you think you need.
  5. Counter-wrap the gold wire in 5-6 evenly spaced turns and tie off; the rib segments the larva and protects the dubbing.
  6. Dub a slightly fatter, darker brown hare's-ear thorax behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and pick out a few thorax fibers for legs.
