Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Largemouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook 3x streamer, 4-10
  • Thread Olive 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Olive marabou (shank length)
  • Body Olive chenille (full)
  • Hackle Olive or grizzly-olive saddle (palmered)
  • Rib Copper wire (counter)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the 3x streamer hook and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in an olive marabou tail about one shank length long, wet your fingers and stroke it to a point.
  3. Bind in a length of copper wire and a prepped olive (or grizzly-olive) saddle hackle by the tip at the bend.
  4. Tie in olive chenille, wrap a full body forward to just behind the eye, and tie off.
  5. Palmer the saddle hackle forward in evenly spaced open turns over the body and tie off behind the eye.
  6. Counter-wrap the copper wire forward through the hackle in the opposite direction to lock the palmer in place, then helicopter it off. The counter-rib is what keeps the hackle from unraveling.
  7. Build a small thread head, whip finish and cement.
