Materials

  • Hackle fibers Brown or grizzly hackle (tail)
  • Floss or wire Fluorescent orange floss or wire (butt / tag)
  • Chenille Black chenille (body)
  • Grizzly hackle tips Grizzly hackle (2 (tented wing))
  • Webby hackle Grizzly hackle (collar)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and tie in a small tail of brown hackle fibers at the bend, about a shank length long.
  2. Build a short fluorescent-orange tag over the rear of the shank for the October caddis accent.
  3. Tie in black chenille and wrap a smooth body forward to the 80% mark.
  4. Select two webby grizzly hackle tips and tie them in low over the back, tented tent-style and curving outward, reaching to the tail.
  5. Tie in a webby grizzly hackle by the tip and wind 3-4 turns as a soft, mobile collar; sweep the fibers back.
  6. Build a neat head, whip finish, and cement.
